So I've seen this floating out there and apparently the idea was pitched by someone who doesn't like Gamergate to begin with. Now looking at their twitter you'll pick up on that a bit but apparently their blog is a sight to behold as well. In the first place why is it that anyone would even entertain this idea knowing that the person behind the suggestion hates what they are trying to accomplish? It makes no sense and is beyond me but let's play it out and see where it leads anyway.

So gamers get together and establish a consumer group called GAMR. Well here is the first problem, Google that term. Nothing like having to fight older, more valid forms of the phrase on search engines right out of the gate. Enjoy people looking at you quizzically when you tell them to look up the info online and all they get are stock tips. But for the sake of argument let's say that isn't an issue for you. Ok. So you create this group and you use it to "sort out the crazies and create a list of demands." Now ask yourself what is the one thing SJWs do best? Come on now you should know this by now? It's the one thing they always fucking do.

That's right, they co-opt. It doesn't matter what the group is, they will eventually slither their way in to it and shit it up and believe me when I tell you that is the plan with this pile of crap called GAMR. Creating a group run on this approach is just begging to have it highjacked and used as a mouthpiece for the idiots you are fighting against. They'll get inside it, throw out those that genuinely have been supporting Gamergate and then establish a false face and start focusing on shit like "ending the harassment." Now you may think that sounds all well and good but it's black PR. They get in to the group and create that message and that message then tells the general public that "Wow, those Gamergaters must really be mean people if the group they set up has to make that a priority, let's just ignore this."

Stop humoring these fools by listening to their ideas about how you should do things. They are losing. They know it. So they are trying their damnedest to throw monkey-wrenches into the process and slow down the train wreck happening in real time on the internet. You have no reason to change your approach, you have no reason to listen to their suggestions. You got to where we are today precisely because you didn't listen to them. Don't adopt the tactics of an enemy that is losing unless you want to join them in defeat.

Yeah, how can we do anything good like convince big company advertisers to pull out of websites like Gamasutra that publish controversial opinion pieces denigrating their readers if we don't have a convenient leader or organization that they can focus their efforts on attacking and undermining?

Damion Schubert's idea is terrible but the concept of a consumer watch organization is interesting, just not now. They're not listening to us now, this is not going to change with a fancy name and some organization. It's something to keep in mind after GamerGate is over.

I was actually implying that Matt may have missed a few things by not being around the block with this media.. I do think that we should respect his opinion but still baffling..

Respecting an opinion is voicing decent against that opinion, to debate it if you disagree with it. The most disrespectful thing you can do to an idea is to not discuss it.

A Bad Week To Be an Utter Asshole Online

This has been a rough week in the real world for me, but today something happened that put a big ol’ smile on my face. First off, Twitter made it very clear where they stand on blockbots by effectively implementing a feature that does the same thing by allowing users to share blocked user lists. This, of course, greatly upset our resident miscreants residing on Reddit’s preferred GamerGate hangout because our founding fathers bled and died so that righteous defenders of good gaming could bombard feminists with insults, anime porn and pictures of dismembered corpses. But hey, turns out that was just the appetizer!

Later, Reddit announced that they were going to close 5 subreddits, all of whom have populations that are sub-5000, with the exception of Fat People Hate, a message board dedicating to finding pictures of fatties and mocking them, with an occasional side order of actually sending a brigade of shit posters to harass said fat people and occasionally try to push them towards suicide. The announcement made it clear that the subs that were shut down were frequently those who engaged in abusive or harassing behavior. The choices raised some eyebrows. For example, CoonTown (it’s an awful link – just don’t click it) is still up – admins would later explain that that’s because CoonTown tends to keep its vile shit localized to its own subreddit, instead of brigading others.

Naturally, KotakuInAction (the #gamergate subreddit) is supernervous, to the degree that they’ve been making contingency plans in case they get banned as well. Not because GamerGate ACTUALLY harasses people. That’s completely a misunderstanding fed by media hype. As an example of said media hype, here’s a story of how a college student was utterly bombarded by harassment at the hands of #gamergaters for daring to talk about them at a game conference. And here they are brigading the /planetside subreddit because a mod banned a player who made a transphobic slam, and would only let him back in if he wrote a 500 word essay.

Anyway, this was after two more utterly embarrassing episodes for Gaming Assholishness. First off, they managed to look like utter hypocrites by cheering for Ubisoft excluding Kotaku from coverage because Kotaku has had some hard-hitting coverage of Ubisoft in the last year – including Kotaku calling attention to and refusing to take part in embargoed reviews after Ubisoft’s attempts to snow their customers on the half-baked status of AC:Unity.

At any rate, KiA and Twitter tonight are schadenfreude delights today
